Νηρέος εἰναλίου νύμφαι καλυκώπιδες, ἁγναί,
φρικαλέαι, βύθιαι, χοροπαίγμονες, ὑγροκέλευθοι,
πεντήκοντα κόραι περὶ κύμασι βακχεύουσαι,
Τριτώνων ἐπ’ ὄχοισιν ἀγαλλόμεναι περὶ νῶτα
θηροτύποις μορφαῖς, ὧν βόσκει σώματα πόντος·
ἄλλοι θ’ οἳ ναίουσι βυθόν, Τριτώνιον οἶδμα,
ὑδρόδομοι, σκιρτηταί, ἑλισσόμενοι περὶ κῦμα,
ποντοπλάνοι δελφῖνες, ἁλιρρόθιοι, κυαναυγεῖς·
ὑμᾶς κικλήσκω πέμπειν μύσταις πολὺν ὄλβον·
ὑμεῖς γὰρ πρῶται τελετὴν ἀνεδείξατε σεμνὴν
εὐιέρου Βάκχοιο καὶ ἁγνῆς Φερσεφονείης,
Καλλιόπῃ σὺν μητρὶ καὶ Ἀπόλλωνι ἄνακτι.

p.hymn-english Daughters of Nereus, resident in caves#[br]merg’d deep in Ocean, sporting thro’ the waves;#[br]fanatic fifty nymphs, who thro’ the main#[br]delight to follow in the Triton’s train,#[br]rejoicing close behind their cars to keep;#[br]whose forms half wild, are nourish’d by the deep,#[br]with other nymphs of different degree#[br]leaping and wand’ring thro’ the liquid sea:#[br]bright, wat’ry dolphins, sonorous and gay,#[br]well pleas’d to sport with Bacchanalian play;#[br]nymphs beauteous-ey’d, whom sacrifice delights,#[br]send rich abundance on our mystic rites;#[br]for You at first disclos’d the rites divine,#[br]of holy #[span.theonym(greek="Bacchos") Bacchus] and of Proserpine,#[br]of fair Calliope from whom i spring,#[br]and of #[span.theonym(greek="Apollon") Apollo] bright, the Muses’ king.
